The Client
IQOS is a brand of electronic tobacco heating system developed by Philip Morris International (PMI). PMI is a multinational tobacco company based in Switzerland and is one of the world's largest producers of tobacco products.
The IQOS device is designed to heat tobacco instead of burning it, which reduces the amount of harmful chemicals released compared to traditional cigarettes. The device uses specially designed tobacco sticks, called HEETS or HeatSticks, which are inserted into the device and heated to a specific temperature. The resulting vapor is then inhaled by the user.
The Challange
IQOS is marketed as an alternative to traditional cigarettes and is sold in many countries around the world. The company has invested heavily in research and development to improve the device and ensure that it is safe and effective. Our Challenge as a team was to deliver a website that presents IQOS customers with a intuitive and informative platform across all devices.
The Solution
As a team we created a clean, modern, and easy to navigate site that met IQOS business needs.
We did this by;
Using high quality imagery, inline with the IQOS tone of voice.
Created a simple and intuitive navigation.
Used clear and concise labels for the menu items, and group related items together.
Prominently showcased products by the use large product images, detailed descriptions, and clear pricing information.
Provided detailed information about the products, including how they work, what they're made of, and how to use them.
Implemented a user-friendly checkout process with detailed and clear information about payment and shipping details.
Created a responsive website.
Content mapping
The content mapping for this product was a huge undertaking. It continues to require constant updating and improvement with new products being released across all of the IQOS global sites.
We used Miro for cross-functional teams to keep aligned with updates, changes and recommendations.
Stringent file organisation
File management was hugely important for this project due to the vast amount of ever changing imagery, products and copy. We organised links to all our files and collaborated using Miro and used Box to house all content and utilised Abstract to record and save historical changes to the High fidelity wireframes.
Updates to the component library
Any changes to components went through a rigorous process which was tracked and reviewed by PMs, Designers, and Developers as well as all stakeholders to ensure the component libraries remained consistent with the tone of voice and brand guidelines.
